PRINCIPLES TO PONDER...
Brokenness is God's Requirement for Maximum Usefulness.
(Life Principle #15)
"Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perserverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything." James 1:2-4
It has been said, " A soul is converted in a moment of time, but to become a saint takes a lifetime." Conversion happens in an instant, but maturity can take years.
We often struggle to better ourselves to reach the apex in our Christian life. We gather and file away, "for the record", a long list of accomplishments. We may even hope to present our resume to God one day, telling Him, "See what I have done for you?"
God hates human pride. Instead, He works through brokenness asking us to NOT ACCUMULATE, but to discard. He wants us to rid ourselves, to shave and chip away at our traits and habits, desires and goals, until we have removed all self and we can say, "All that I am and all that I have is God's. He is in me and I am in Him. This is all that matters."
When, at last, there is nothing betwen our soul and our Saviour...when there is nothing we love more than we love God; then God can bring us to spiritual maturity and wholeness in Him. We cannot reach spiritual maturity without suffering and pain. It's God's work in preparing us for His future service. Unbelievably, we find our greatest joy through our surrender to Him.
"Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God - this is your spiritual act of worship." Romans 12:1
This is a review from Charles Stanley's work.
